Mesmerised by the tall dark trees and the kaleidoscope of colour spilling out of every leaf and branch, she pulled her gaze away to glance behind her, but she couldn't see her house anymore or the field that led to her back gate. There was a field, but it was blazing as though it was on fire. Lara turned to face the terrifying sight. She gasped like she couldn't breathe. She gulped, quickly feeling her throat close. She was sure she could feel the heat and smoke racing towards her from that glowing, burning ground. Lara cried out, covering her face and then just as quickly, it all disappeared. There was the back fence in the distance and the rows of familiar houses, closer was the cut back green field, its crops just starting to grow.

Mum’s steady hand was on her arm, but she looked so sad. “Go back home,” she said, sounding exhausted.

Little Brady loves all things French. Given the opportunity to move to France, he learns all he can to be a part of that world. He discovers, no matter how hard he tries, he will never be French. Brady discovers, with his mother's help, although he may never be French, he can still belong in his own way at his own pace. After all, even the Eiffel Tower was once an outcast in its own city, and now its uniqueness adds to the beauty of the Parisian landscape.

What if I told you this is how many people with autism live their whole life? This story of Brady will help you better understand what many have to learn to deal with, and how working together, we can all belong.

“Brady was lucky, though. He had a great mom who worked at a local art museum, and he was always able to explore different cultures. He loved that! He would spend most of his days staring into the Monet paintings, just pretending he was at those places. He imagined himself staring up at the Eiffel tower from his imaginary Parisian window, admiring just how extraordinary it was. Most of all, he was enthralled with the Eiffel tower, so much so that he and his mom spent many afternoons at the library, searching for more and more information about it. Brady knew how tall it was. He knew that its height fluctuated within six inches, depending on the weather. He knew it was designed by a man named Gustav Eiffel and that many French countrymen did not originally want it standing against their skyline. Brady knew how that felt. Sometimes he felt like he stood out a little too. His mother always told him, ‘Of course you stand out! That's what's stars do.

How else would you see them at night?’
“Brady's mom loved him and so, without Brady knowing, she sought a job far away from where they were. One day, she got a call. There was a small university in Paris looking for someone, and she was just the someone they were looking for! Brady's mom wanted him to be where he belonged. She loved him and understood him, always.”

There’s a big commotion in town, and a young boy discovers in amazement what it’s all about. A big dog with a bucket stuck on its face is loose in town, and nobody can catch him. "Stay back, son," a woman called from the crowd.
Jimmy didn't pay any attention. I'm 10-years-old, he thought to himself. I can outrun any alley monster.
When the two men and Jimmy got within about 15 feet of the monster, it seemed to be aware of them for the first time. It snapped its head toward them and stood still with its legs spread apart, like it was going to jump. It made a scary hissing noise.
The skinny man backed up until he ran into the brick wall. His face turned white and he was trembling.
Jimmy squeezed his handlebars tightly and slowly turned the wheel to the side, so he could make a quick getaway.
Then the older man made a laughing sound and dropped down on one knee. "Come here, boy," he said. Then he whistled a little bit. "Come on. I'll help you."
The crowd had gotten big by now, and lots of people had pushed almost as far down the alley, as the two men and Jimmy.
"What is it?" a man yelled. "Do we need a gun?"

Reviews:Jim Lester on Amazon wrote:

This is a delightful book for younger readers. Jimmy, the main character, is full of spirit and Bucky, the dog, is every boy's dream come true. The vocabulary is age-appropriate and there is a nice, almost old-fashioned sense of place in the little town. The book builds some solid suspense over the question of whether or not Jimmy and Bucky will find each other. The author also includes some common sense advice about children dealing with stray dogs. The story is well-written, includes some humorous illustrations and all in all is a fun little book. Highly recommended.

His Captain and trusted friend, Roland Dower, looked very concerned. “My King, if his warriors were to approach, they would see us and be on their guard and on us before they even came close!”

“I know,” the King said solemnly. “I don’t know what else to do.”

“I do,” a small voice said behind them. There, stepping out of the shadows, was the littlest princess, all of one foot tall and looking at the men, unafraid.

“This is going to be just like old times, being back at Eggshell,” said Oliver. “Remember kindergarten here? Those were the days, huh?”

Oliver gazed into space and smiled as his thoughts drifted back to their kindergarten days. He pictured the big room that smelled like glue and crayons, with toys and games everywhere. He remembered a tiny Tucker, wearing a cape and hat, chasing a baby Chelsea chick around the room with his magician’s wand.

A pint-sized April Mae, with a thick braid longer than she was tall, was at a table with a toy crystal ball, handing out horoscopes.

Oliver pictured himself back on the beanbag chair reading his favorite Quantum Physics book. He had plunked the huge book down with a thud and stood on it. “Here’s a good joke for you. Where does bad light go?”

April Mae, Tucker and Chelsea had gathered closer to listen.

Oliver stood taller. “To a prism!”
