What if a man lost his moral compass between right and wrong, good and evil, mental stability and insanity?

John Corbin has been investigating, catching, and convicting murderers, rapists, and pedophiles for twenty years as a Seattle detective. But lately, someone has been beating him to the punch and eliminating these vile criminals before he can apprehend them. John is learning that there is a thin line between innocent or guilty, good or evil, alive or dead.

By definition, a thin line is a very narrow division between two alternatives. Some being exact opposites, while others are separated by the narrowest of threads. This novel follows this definition to the letter. In life, many situations aren't just black or white. There is usually a modicum of grey to fill in the space. Who is right? Who is wrong? Who is good? Who is evil? Perhaps everyone at one time or another lies somewhere in the middle.

A Thin Line is a tale that will immediately draw you in and keep you guessing. A suspenseful psychological thriller with twists and turns that will toy with your mind and emotions, driven by a chilling narrative that builds the tension right up until its explosive conclusion.

By the time John and Todd had arrived at the Northgate Mall, it had already been shut down and closed off. No way in. No way out. The perp had taken a light machine gun into the mall and open fired on the unsuspecting consumers. There were bodies splayed from the Sunglass Hut to the food court, blood everywhere, a few already dead and another ten to twenty seriously injured. The perp had taken a hostage and barricaded himself inside Victoria's Secret. Why he did it, no one had discovered yet. The police were setting up in the Bath and Body Works directly across from Victoria's Secret. John and Todd entered through the back entrance that connected to the parking lot. “Good morning. I’m Detective Corbin, and this is Detective McGrath,” John said as he approached the group of officers huddled together discussing tactics.

“Hello detectives, we were instructed to hand the lead over to you two. I am Officer Wilson. This is Officer Taft, Officer Bianco, and Officer Getz.”

“Good morning, officers,” Todd said.

“What does he want?” John asked.

“He has asked for safe passage out and a car waiting for him.”

“Why?” John asked. “He had that before he shot up the mall. I’m not buying it. It’s just a diversion. He has other plans.”

“Sir, he claims once he is out he will free the hostage. We shouldn't do anything to disrupt the hostages’ safety.”

“I will consider your thoughts,” John said. “Any info on the perp or the hostage? Identities?”

“He is in his thirties. Caucasian. No ID, yet. Female hostage. Twenties. No ID. “

“Alright. I need communication with him,” John said.

Reviews:on Amazon:

This story is one to make you think about right and wrong and how easy it is to step over that "thin line" that divides them. Are there crimes so horrific that it's okay to take justice into your own hands? The killer certainly thinks so. You often hear, "Make the punishment fit the crime." If the monsters you come across in this story knew what their punishment would be, I bet they'd have had second thoughts about doing the beastly things they did. And yes, some of them will make you ill thinking about it. If you're sensitive to the cruelty one person can do to another human or an animal, you might want to pass on this book. Despite some editing hiccups, this is a book that kept my interest. The further I got into it, the more intense it became, with plenty of unexpected outcomes.

on Amazon:

The Thin Line is an accurate name for this vigilante crime novel. The law doesn’t always equate to justice. The separation in between right and wrong and retribution is indeed a thin line. The author shows us a detective with an uncanny knack for honing in on the bad guys. That skill is often brought out by his conversations with his bartender.
Once the stage is set and we find out the victims that detective is investigating are perpetrators of heinous crimes then us, the reader, starts to lose a little empathy for them. But, whoever is killing them is also an animal and that’s where the intrigue and the provocative thought process kicks in.
I found the book stimulating and can’t wait to read the next in the series.

on Amazon:

I believe that the goal of every writer regardless of what genre they write is to write a book that will stay with the reader after the last page.
You will read this book and in certain chapters, it will be so disturbing that you will wonder what is wrong with the guy writing this book, why is this book so DARK. Then you will stop and realize that crimes like this happen every single day. The author just finds a way of forcing you to deal with them.

Nature vs Nurture is one of the oldest arguments in the history of psychology, with no clear answer. This book will challenge all your beliefs. What causes one person to cross that line, is it a gut instinct, or something more?

After each chapter. you will ask yourself what could possibly happen next and how does this all tie together.

If Psychological Suspense is what you’re looking for this book delivers. I can only hope we get to revisit some of the main characters in a second book.

You are invited to take a journey. A journey that is sometimes enlightening , sometimes morbid, sometimes light, sometimes dark, sometimes based in fiction and sometimes all too real.

These stories will upset you, captivate you, make you laugh and cry and may even effect emotions in you that you never knew existed, however, as different as they all are they are seemingly all connected in our hearts and souls.

They possess a deeper theme that brings a frightening reality to the heart of every reader.

Excerpt:

Mexican border, winter, 2016

Nasir Shekau passes over the Mexican border south of Yuma. He isn’t sure why he’s alive. Whether it was a result of a few bad shots from experienced military shooters, or just pure luck. Maybe the two aimed just a bit north or south of the target because they couldn’t bring themselves to end the life of such a brave warrior. The answer is something he’ll never know but inside he hopes it’s the latter. He will not make his way back to Afghanistan. He knows he’ll be tracked down there and possibly given up by his own people.

Lima, Peru. That’s where his dreams lead him. Settle down in a small village just outside the city, overlooking the Pacific. Some say the Pacific has no memory, that it forgives and forgets.

Nasir Shekau is banking on that parable.

He continues his path south. Once he’s over the border, he is free of any American stronghold. The sun peaks out from behind a few fluffy early morning Mexican clouds and he holds his face to the sky to feel the warm rays. They give him a feeling he hasn’t felt in a long time. A feeling like he’s just woken after a long slumber. An invigorating, rejuvenating, euphoric feeling.

It’s the feeling of freedom.

Mr. Boiani has a pension for writing about families and the inner workings that twist and pull until they snap. In the beginning he ties infidelity into a kind of instant Karma that zaps the wholes street. From there we have shorter, detailed snap shots, instead of videos, of more family drama, heightened by wicked intentions, and sometimes monsters.
What can be and should be and what is are the distinctions that are author points out, sometimes in a subtle way, other times it’s with a hammer, but either way it comes as a last page surprise that the reader didn’t see coming.
For short, dark, family stories that steer us outside the boundaries of the law, sometimes morality and other times drift into fantasy this is the book for you.

This collection of short stories explores all the darker emotions: loss, grief, anxiety, and anger.

Each story had a brilliant scope of its own world, and I loved how deep each story really was. The events reflect on real issues that make the collection all the more enrapturing. Very thorough story-telling with interesting messages in each.

I will definitely be searching out more works by this author.

From the time he was a boy, he knew he was something special; different. When he committed his first crime and got away with it, he became something else.

Jay had been called many names, The Marcavillian Hunter, Sunshine State Killer, Eastside Rapist, but for him, he was always the shadow in the night...the figure just out of normal perception. A ghost, someone not seen until he wanted to be.

Learn from inside the mind of one of the greatest criminal minds of the 21st Century and how until only recently, he managed to escape detection for over forty years.

You can't protect yourself from what you can't see.

Excerpt:

After spending a good twenty minutes experimenting with the female underwear, the curious long-haired boy took the plastic Ziploc bag from his sandwich and turned it inside out. Carefully folding the panties into a small neat cube, he placed them inside. The zip wouldn’t seal, but the boy rolled up the edges firmly.

After looking for a place to hide them, he lifted a plank and placed the panties in their weather-tight casing underneath and returned the board to its original position. He then kicked some loose hay over the area to further conceal it.

Job done now, he smoked three more cigarettes. The radio played softly in the background. A weepy voice sang about lost love over a slow, strumming guitar. Not his style, but he was too submerged in thought to get up and change the station.

By now, Jay had a small black and white notebook on his lap and held a yellow number two pencil between his fingers. Leaning at the edge of the crate, back hunched, head forward, eyes staring but seeing nothing.

Think, mother-fucker, think.

Suddenly it came to him. The pencil began to scribble wildly, sketching out some crude squares with triangles attached to the tops.

What if real life scenarios were far more horrific than fantasy? What if you could visit the dark, unsettling mind of one man and experience the disturbing stories that originate there? These stories are unconnected, but they all include a similar trait: Fear. They are all based on aspects of life that are haunting yet very real. Experiencing these stories will induce a terror that will stay with you long after the final page is turned...

Excerpt:

How does a usually analytical, sane person handle this? It was just a dream, but it was so real, so vivid. Add in the fact that my instincts told me Frederick Stone was a creep from the beginning, and I knew I had to explore this further.

The following day, I had a day off from the school. Actually, I had no classes for the remainder of the week. Mr. Stone left in his pickup at 8 a.m. His work schedule was very hectic, depending on the rate of messy crimes, I guess. Sometimes he would be gone all day, sometimes only an hour. He could go a week with no work or work every day. His hectic schedule made what I had to do very tricky and risky.

Reviews:Vine Voice on Amazon wrote:

“Dark Musings” is a riveting collection of short stories joined by a common theme: a desire to understand the eternal question of providence, the existence of God, life after death, possibility of time travel, mysterious coincidences, and other issues that have been on every person’s mind at least once in their lives. Should we believe our prophetic dreams or discount them as vivid imagination only? How do we know if some higher power is behind a certain fateful event or it’s pure coincidence? Should we trust our logic or our hearts when it comes to the most important decisions in our lives? These and many more ideas are developed and shown through the eyes of different characters: a father hoping to reverse the course of events to save his daughter from an accident; a family of a patient in a coma, deciding his fate without knowing that he is aware of everything happening around him; a woman, deciding to believe her intuition to save a little girl – all these stories will make you ponder on such issues even after you close the book. Definitely a worthy read.

From the first story, The Neighbor, to the last, Incubus, I enjoyed every page of this book of short stories. While I liked them all, I’d have to say my favorites were The Neighbor, Room 723, Aaron (now THAT one was truly scary!), and Motherhood. A few stories had a touch of the supernatural, while others were very much grounded in reality—often an ugly reality, but a reality nonetheless.

I especially liked the Afterword the author did after each story. He either shared what triggered the idea for that particular story or what he was trying to accomplish with it, or he provided the reader with food for thought—like how do we really know the people we come in contact with every day. I highly recommend this collection to anyone who enjoys short stories with a bit of chill to them.

Book Collector on Amazon wrote:

Crisp writing, straight to the point, nails it. I loved the way the stories were put together. The author's narratives and skill with the written word were on every page. Definitely, a great book if you're travelling and want to read the different stories periodically, although the stories are so good you might be like me and binge from beginning to end.

I really enjoyed this collection of short stories, bordering on horror and suspense. The stories were imaginative and fresh and I can only wonder where the author got his ideas from.

I wish the book had been a little longer overall. Guess I enjoyed it a little too much.

What stands between humanity and the battle of Armageddon? A sword.
But not just any sword - the Fiery Sword that guarded the Gates of Eden after humanity was kicked out. Before the flood, it was stolen by the 23rd Demon kicked from heaven, who eventually married and imbued it into her human son.
But now she'd dead, and it's starting to manifest.

Humanity’s only hope? Nick Decker, a scotch-swilling PI armed with a .45 and the Wrath of God, his nerdy ninja-stripper girlfriend Gretchen, and his loyal acid-dropping, street-doc, war-buddy Jammer. It’s up to them to keep the battle of Armageddon from happening... and find the Devil's lost dog.

Excerpt:

The girls both stopped as they noticed Jammer and I not moving. But we both knew it was time to go.

I smirked, “Smoke me a kipper, I’ll be back for breakfast.” Playing my part as much as he was.

Jammer’s head bobbed and he grinned like a school kid who just got the prom queen’s phone number while her quarterback boyfriend was away in the bathroom. “See you, Space Cowboy.”

We turned and neither looked back.

Gretchen and I walked side by side down the garish hallway. I heard her breach and check to make sure there were six .357 rounds in the cylinder before snapping it shut.

“Hold this,” she said and stuffed the revolver in my left hand.

I watched as she pulled out one of her shuriken and use the razor like cutting edge to cut the dress so that it ended above mid-thigh as the rest of the fabric fell to her ankles. She kept the shuriken in her left hand as she kicked off her heels, then smiled as she held out her hand for the pistol. I handed it to her and then we simultaneously, like we’d planned it that way, thumbed back the hammers of our pistols.

We smiled; it was time to go to work.

Hell for the Company is absolutely original and utterly brilliant. This was a bit of stretch on my usual genre; I'm a fervent fan of David Baldacci, Vince Flynn/Kyle Mills and Tom Clancy with some Tolkien, Martin and Rowling thrown in for fun. I can safely say I now have a new author to add to my list, Dick Denny.

The protagonist is a mid 30's, not exactly successful, PI named Nick Decker, whom we meet at his mother's funeral. It's not until he decides to hit the local slummy strip joint that his tale truly starts rolling. Enter Gretchen, the bombshell that's way too cool for our dysfunctional hero, Jammer, Nick's battle buddy turned "guy-guy", Joy with an E-Y and a whole slew of interesting characters. From car chases to shootouts at the Asian karaoke, a fiery sword that appears out of nowhere and one hell of an uncle, this book is packed full of action with a side of humor and a touch of the heavenly (or not so heavenly).

Hell for the Company has an extremely clever and seriously entertaining story line. From the chapter titles to the hilarious inner dialogs, this book will make even a grown man giggle.

If you enjoy an abundance of guns, good whiskey, and a hilariously sardonic protagonist, this book is for you.

I cannot wait to read the next in the series. Well done, Mr. Denny.

Rick zigzagged between trees through a thick darkness. Twigs snapped under his feet, just as his frayed nerves threatened to do. Gasping breaths echoed in his ears. Thorny vines, bushes, and trees blocked his every turn. He staggered against a trunk, rugged bark scraping his back. He trembled to his knees, sobbing for air.
The mutilated bodies of his friends were burned into his memory.
Dried leaves crackled in the distance. Something pushed through the tangled brush.
Rick gazed down the hill. A beam of light pierced the night and flashed up, blinding him. His heart nearly stopped, and he fumbled around in the dirt for a rock, a branch, anything.
An old man stepped from the foliage, his aged face just visible, ghostlike, in the light’s radiance. “I see you crouching behind those trees up there, Rick. Come back! We need each other more than ever.”
Rick clawed at the nearest tree, hoisting himself to his feet.

He mustered enough courage to shout through his fear, down at Jason Sammons. “G-go to hell, you crazy, old bastard! You killed them. You killed them all! I saw you.”
The old man moved closer, the gawking, sunken eyes from his gaunt, ashen face more prominent. “You saw me, what?”
“Their blood was all over you!”
“Damn right it was!” he said, nearly shrieking. “I dragged their bodies from the bushes. D’ya really think I could’ve pulled their spines out? D’ya have any idea the force needed for that? You’re terrified. We both are, but if we don’t stick together, neither of us will ever leave this forest! We have to—” He stopped talking and looked over his shoulder as if he’d heard something.
“What the fuck’s that?” Rick gasped and lurched against a tree.
A dark fog billowed from the shrubbery behind Jason, and slammed him face down, into the ground.
The old man lifted his head, mouth twisting. “Run, boy! Run!” he gasped, his voice as thin as the vapor that covered him.
The phantom bent the old man’s torso back. His spine snapped, cracking his screams into silence.

The clanging was barely audible at first. Brad held his breath, straining to hear it, but his fearful heart throbbed in his ears and made it difficult to pinpoint, It seemed to come from a great distance, but from every direction. Brad allowed himself to exhale a stagnant gasp, trying to silence it in shudders. The sound became clearer, seemed to be getting closer. One repetitive sound, as if Brad was trapped in a huge bell jar and some giant finger kept tapping the glass. His breaths were still coming in staccato relief, but the clanging Had now increased in volume significantly. Brad called an image to mind of the Sunday walk to church with his family as a child. The tintinnabulations of the mighty bell growing in intensity as they grew closer to the massive stone edifice that had always filled him with dread. This sound had the same effect.
