Daniel woke to Tim’s pleading.
“Daniel are you awake? I keep hearing footsteps in the hallway.”
Daniel glanced at the bed-side clock. “It’s 3:00. Go back to sleep.”
“No, seriously, go check it out.”
Daniel got up, walked to the door and put his ear against the wood. What he heard sent chills down his spine. Slow, deliberate footsteps coming from the end of the hallway. Too slow to be an actual person. Too deliberate to be the gait of someone out for a late stroll.
“Holy shit, dude.”
“What the fuck is it? Go check.”
“Why me, you coward?”
“You brought us here. It was your idea. You need to go check it out.”
“Why don’t we just go back to sleep? The steps obviously aren’t meant to do us any harm.”
“How do we know that?”
“Because they haven’t tried to get into our room yet.”
“Yet? Maybe you can accept yet.
You seem to like ghosts. I on the other hand, despise the whole concept.”
Suddenly the steps ceased exactly in front of their door.
“Daniel, what the fuck!” Tim whispered.
Daniel reached for the doorknob.
“Wait, don’t,” Tim whispered hoarsely.
Daniel put a finger up towards his frightened friend. Slowly he turned the knob and eased the door open. Tim pulled the covers over his head. Daniel stepped into the hall.
A Unique and Thrilling Read.
Immortal is unlike any novel I’ve previously read. The author seamlessly combines mystery, suspense, and philosophy into a superb tale about life, death, and everything in between. I highly recommend this novel.
Can we reverse the aging process by thoughts and actions?
Very impressive novel, never mind first novel! David tells a well-rounded story and makes his characters real and compelling. I like the shorter chapters as it kept me wanting to keep turning the pages and see what happened next. Add in two major surprises and David took me for quite a ride. Looking forward to what comes next!!
