"I realized not only her physical wounds needed healing, but her mental ones did too."

Distraught after an argument with her abusive husband, Kayla Grayson miscalculates a sharp curve on the interstate. Close to death, a stranger changes her life forever.
Cain Westbrook, a wealthy bachelor, has always protected his existence to avoid witch-hunts for his kind. Alone for six centuries, he didn't expect to find his true mate dying on the interstate. Before he can stop himself, he does the unthinkable.
Kayla struggles to adapt to her new life. After making her abusive husband her first kill, she becomes blind to Cain's love, her powerful gifts, and the dangers of the dark forces.
In spite of this, she begins to understand Cain's reasons for changing her, but her insecurities keep her from believing in his love until...

Excerpt:

Kayla choked on her screams as she awoke out of her dream. She gasped for air, surveying the room as she realized she lay safe in her bed. Only a nightmare, she realized, and lay back down. A sigh of relief came over her, but soon realized something amiss. She rolled to her right and turned on the lamp. No Carl.
"Carl?" she called, and received no answer.
Kayla suspected a difference in the room, and decided to seek for her husband. Perhaps in the shower, she reckoned. He spent more time grooming himself than anyone else she knew of. Her feet touched the carpet and noted she was wearing her favored white outfit, but did not remember putting it on. Perhaps Carl dressed her while she slept; perhaps to take her out for dinner as an apology for being a moron. READ MORE

> The man may act like an idiot, but his sensitive side surfaced on occasion, reminding her why she married him so many years ago. She shook her head and smiled, then ambled to the bathroom. No lights on, and still no Carl anywhere.
"Carl?"
Strange, she thought. She shrugged, strolling to the closet to change into her pajamas.
She flipped the switch and gaped at the huge room full of a beautiful selection of clothes, shoes, and bags.
"Wait a minute," she whispered and frowned. She never had an elegant wardrobe, but the garments and accessories did seem to be hers. Aside from the few items she knew she already owned, nothing else registered.
She walked back to the room and her eyes scanned the unusual, trendy pieces of unrecognizable furniture. Kayla rotated clockwise, finding no family pictures or of her cat, Mr. Biggins, on the wall or nightstands. Panic set in and tears began to flow. She spotted double French doors and scuttled to open them.

The terror that had been screaming through her body began to dissipate. Warmth flooded towards her fingertips and a strange calm filled her. Brushing aside the arm that Ge had flung out in front of her when he’d finally managed to find his feet, she took a step towards the shadow.
It paused in its approach, as if unsure what to do with a target that did not cower from it. The hesitation was brief, and the shadow shot itself towards Eva, weapon raised and letting out a raspy shriek. Eva made no move to dodge, in spite of Ge next to her screaming for her to move.
The spear of a hand was poised to bury itself in her chest, but it stopped short as suddenly as if it had crashed against a wall. If the creature had discernible features, Eva was sure they would have been molded into a mask of confusion.

It tried again and again to force its razor-sharp hand through to her chest, and each time and invisible force stopped it. The creature’s fury increased after each failed attempt, its shrieking cry rising in desperation.
Eva was unmoved by the creature’s cries. Her newfound serenity was unshakeable. She felt strong. The creature’s face turned from her to its hand and back to her again, trying to piece together what had gone wrong.
As the shadow stared at her, it began to lighten—inky black faded to charcoal and then to heather grey. A sound almost like a groan issued from the creature as it staggered back, beams of lilac light poking their way through its fading form and widening until they left nothing of the shadow behind.

"The story takes its reader on a seemingly impossible quest to thwart the evil that has set it's inky black claws on a great magical forest, slowly sapping away it's energy. There were times I found myself lost for hours in this book and had to fight to tear myself away."

"I like this genre of writing. I thought that Evin was really well written. The characters and action really held my interest. I would certainly read this author's writings again."

The small smile grew larger as Vlad took in the scene before him. It didn’t matter if this being asked for his first-born son because he could have another son. He would grant Samiasa whatever he requested for this vision before him.
“Grant me my desire and what you see before you will be yours, this and more. For each and every battlefield where you have ever waged war, the sight before you will greet your enemy come dawn. You will forever more be remembered as Vlad Tepeş, the Impaler. Centuries from now, your people will call you their savior, your enemies will be dead, tellers of tales across the oceans, in lands still yet to be discovered, will tell legends about you.” Samiasa said quietly behind Vlad, careful not to break the spell he had created.
“Whatever you want, name it and if it is mine to give, it will be yours. If it is not mine, I shall steal it.
