Nik—an outwardly normal, young woman terrified by water, living in the Greek-American town of Tarpon Springs, Florida.
Bas—a shapeshifter merman tasked with obtaining Nik’s help to gain what his species most desires.
The Nerei—a race of beings who want humans to continue to believe they are mythological.
What happens when Nik refuses to help Bas and the Nerei?
How will Nik and Bas save each other when they fall in love, against his species laws?
Nik opened her mouth to scream. Like in her dreams of drowning, only a whisper emerged. She grasped the arm of a young woman, one of an interesting trio standing beside her. > The woman reached him and released the branches. He shot upward. Nik gulped air too. The boy gasped and yelled for help.
“The last boy didn't come up. See the bubbles?”
The young woman met Nik's eyes, then shifted her gaze to the area where Nik pointed.
Without a single word, she took a breath and dived into the water, right from the sidewalk. Weird, but hurrah for quick action.
Silt clouded the bayou where the divers stirred it up. It obscured Nik's vision. She peered at the spots where the young woman went in and where the boy's bubbles came up. She saw him, struggling to free his leg from submerged tree limbs. His efforts slowed, even as the seconds ticked on. She held her breath.
Where was the boy’s savior? Anxiety spiked. Nik scanned the water but no bubbles rose to the surface.
She turned to the man and woman. “Where is your friend?”
They shrugged. The man shook his head. “We were not with anyone.”
Nik stared. “But she was standing right next to you.”
The woman frowned. “Did you start the Glendi a little early, dear? Have you consumed a lot of Ouzo? Come, Basileus.” She turned, pulling him along. He stared over his shoulder at Nik until they disappeared into the crowd.
Bas had never met a more attractive woman. He knew about Aphrodite Agathaniki Aronopulos, the part-human, part-Nerei, who might provide the answer to their problem but he never expected her to look so much like one of them, yet so exotic.
Aphrodite's dark eyes held a softness Bas had never found in a Nerei woman. Her body was as rounded and full as any male would want. His fingers twitched when he thought of pulling the tie from her waist-length hair. Bas cleared an odd hoarseness from his throat. He turned back but the crowd closed in and he lost sight of her.

"Great new take on an old myth...or is it a reality? Basileus and Neme are twins, and water dwellers called Nerei...Nik is human, or is she? Then there is Rowan, another unusual man, but I won't spill all the secrets. A lot of mystery and suspense to the story, and of course some great romance! Many twists are thrown in to keep you interested. Well written, and great first novel!"
"Read it in one day! Good read, different and I like different. The story of Nik who thought she was a normal person and Bas, who lives in the water. Lot of mystery in this book to figure out, why I read in one day. I had to know!!!"
