Alexandria Roe's haunted past comes to life when she turns sixteen. Her hallucinations and fevers spark a premonition of her family's death. A darkness shadows her, but her struggle for answers lead to more than she bargained. Will she be consumed by her fears or overcome what waits beyond the horizon? A Dragon Lord from the Northern Isles of Alabass conquers all kingdoms in his wake. He hungers for power, but thirsts for the three amethysts. Each gem's unique ability is absorbed by the person that wields it. If all three are united, the power will bring to life the scepter, which unlocks the ancient prison. What lies in the depths can only be discovered by the holder of the Temperament Scepter.

Black clouds spiraled overhead as he watched from the hill at Olmstead Castle. Darkness consumed the light as the plains faded into shadows. A cloud swirled over the castle as lightning struck the watch tower, creating a monstrous flame. It engulfed the roof of the small house near the eastern wall. He heard the townspeople scream in panic from afar. He kicked his heels against Strider’s belly and leaned forward to absorb the footfalls of his horse.
He raced across the drawbridge and through the gates as hail pelted the ground, tearing the skin of him and Strider. Lightning branched across the sky in multiple directions as people scurried through the streets for shelter. He unsheathed his sword and charged into the glass windows of the bakery. The shards of glass tore through his skin as Strider tumbled to the floor. They both slid across the bakery.

Strider collided against the back wall, while Henry was wedged against a pile of broken tables. He shook his head and pulled himself across the floor to the counter, where he watched all of the frightened faces of the townspeople. His left arm was weak and his ribs were aching.
“Get out of here if you want to keep your head on your shoulders!” he cried, gripping the sword with his right hand. Everyone looked at him like he was insane. He slashed the sword into one of the display cases and glass shattered across the floor. “Fools, are you deaf? Leave or watch your heads roll in the street!”
The townspeople screamed and ran out into the storm. A low hum from the thunder above shook the windows and the floor.
