"Is everything okay with you two?" I studied her face to see if I could figure it out, but I couldn't.

"We'll see." She looked back at Elijah, who by then was climbing into the front seat. "I'll text you later, okay? You have a nice ride home, and I want details later you hear me?" She walked over to the car and climbed into the passenger seat. Devon startled me when he snuck up behind me.

"So, I take it she didn't need to go home after all?" he said.

"They need to work out some stuff," I said.

"Well... Let's get you out of this cold and get home, shall we?" Devon grabbed my hand and walked me back towards the driveway where his blue 2014 Ford F150 was parked. I didn't know what to think anymore. He held my hand. What does that mean? Why would a guy like this like a girl like me? I felt unsure but decided to go with the flow. On the way to my house, we talked a lot about me. I told him I would be turning eighteen in a couple of weeks and graduating in May.  We talked about my mom and Shane and their wedding. We talked about my dad, which wasn’t an easy subject for me to talk about. I felt so comfortable talking to him, like I’d known him forever. He listened to me and didn't pass judgment. Well, at least I didn't think he did. He stayed quiet most of the time.

"Look at me being a chatterbox. Tell me about yourself," I asked.

"I love listening to you talk." He gave me that sexy smile of his.

"Well, now you know my life story, I'd like to hear yours."

"Some other time, okay?" he said. Hmm, what doesn't he want to tell me? I just told him everything about me. Did I say too much? Did he lose interest? Ugh, why am I letting this get to me? All too soon, we pulled up to my house. My mom's car wasn't in the driveway. Thank goodness. I didn't want her to see me pull up in Devon’s truck; she would probably flip out. Besides, I’m supposed to be next door at Cassie's house, and Cassie isn't even with me. Oh man, Cassie. I hope whatever she and Elijah are fighting about isn't too serious. They are too perfect for each other. I know I want a relationship just like theirs someday.

Reviews:Tara Chamblin on Goodreads wrote:

Ms. Witte is phenomenal in her detail & her suspense. She is without a doubt right up there with the Nancy Drew & Hardy Boys mysteries. These books were my favorites as a youngster, & Ms. Witte is just as great! I could not put it down, eyes got sore. I look forward to her next one. She is fast on her way to a long career if her stories are driven with the same suspense & description as this one was. Great job Ms. Witte, you are phenomenal in your writing & see a bright future in it for you.
