Sometime during the night, footsteps approached the hideaway, and Alyx’s eyes flew open. She propped onto her elbow, watched through bleary eyes as the hem of a white robe stopped at the threshold. Oman?
“Do not be afraid, child,” he said. “It’s just me, and I only wish to talk briefly.”
She rubbed her eyes and moved to sit. His hand reached down from above. “Please, join me.”
She grasped onto his large hand, her fingers appearing like a child’s as he curled his knobby fingers around them, and he helped her to her feet.
As she dusted off her dress, she noted how the dark forest had come to life during her brief slumber. Tree frogs were calling to one another in deep, throaty bellows. More fireflies danced around the pond. Crickets were playing a soft, sad song to the stars.
“I see you found this place without any trouble,” he said, his eyes creasing as he beamed.READ MORE
She returned his knowing smile. “I just followed some fireflies that came to get me.”
He chuckled. “Very good. This place is for you to visit every night – to rest and refresh. Your secrets are safe here.”
“Thank you, Oman,” she said, but the words seemed too thin. Too few. What he did for her was something she would never be able to repay him for. Something that deserved more than just a simple thank you, but that was all she had to give at the moment.
“You’re welcome. I couldn’t stand the thought of you being hungry.”
Speaking of... “Do you know what’s wrong with me?” she asked, and she tried to say it casually, like she’d already accepted it and was fine with it, but her throat pinched a little when she said it. She hoped he didn’t catch it.
“Wrong with you? I would not assume something was ‘wrong’ with you because you’re different. But there is something peculiar going on for sure.”
To say the least. Either way, though, it would still be nice to have some answers. But apparently, Oman didn’t have them. Yet, anyway. He seemed too interested in her condition last night to not want to seek out the truth. He had a direct connection to the Creator, after all.
“Nice touch with the fireflies, though,” she added, changing the subject back to something more pleasant.
“You have a personal connection to them. I figured you would know what to do.”
Her breath hitched at the remembrance. “I suppose I did,” she said, and her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. Her Elders weren’t the only ones who knew about her tryst with a human – those secrets weren’t safe from everyone.COLLAPSE

If you read the first book in this series, you will LOVE this one more. Hope is the keyword for this one. You hope the survivors are safe and you hope they can defeat the army against them. Alyx continues to defy the elders, except for one. He realizes she's not the same as the others. When the warriors are sent to them, each Angel has their other half. But Alyx is torn between two, her warrior and the man she has come to love. Paths are chosen. Now to wait for book three to see the outcome!!
Great part two to the first Chronicle. A very compelling and amazing story. The author puts together a great story!! Recommend this to anyone!
