Twenty-something Glenna Cobb is busy climbing the corporate ladder when she finds herself plunged into the dark world of organized crime.  To further complicate her life, Michael Vikos, the savvy, much older industrialist/crime boss, decides that she must marry him so that he can better protect her from his more unsavory business associates.  Despite the unconventional start to their marriage and their age difference, and one horrific incident, love grows between the unlikely pair.

With their seventh anniversary approaching, Michael decides to step away from the illegal aspects of his business so that he and Glenna can adopt.  Just as Glenna learns that she is miraculously pregnant, Fate steps in, and once again, her life will radically change.  Will Glenna be able to protect what is most important to them both?

Upstairs Glenna paced across the plush carpet at the foot of the enormous bed.  She lifted a hand to her face to brush away the same unruly lock of hair again, but the hand was shaking so hard that she clenched it into a fist and let it drop to her side.  She took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly in an attempt to steady her nerves.  She opened a door next to her, looking for a bathroom, and found instead a large walk-in closet filled with impeccable designer suits and sports clothes and perfectly polished shoes and boots.  She stepped over to the shirt rack and ran her fingers through the dozens of tailored silk shirts.  She noticed the initials “MV” or “V” on several, and there was a wire bin that held dozens of neatly pressed handkerchiefs with the same monograms.

“Oh, great,” Glenna mumbled as it dawned on her, “Vikos, the V is for Vikos.  The top man put me in his room, his own bedroom.  Out of the frying pan and into the fire.”  She heard voices outside and hurried to the window.  She recognized several of the men from the conference room earlier.  She couldn’t hear what was being said, but it was obvious that the meeting had adjourned and everyone was leaving.  Within a minute there was a knock on the door, and she felt every muscle in her body tense as she turned to face the tall man who walked into the room.  He closed the door behind himself and considered the lovely wide-eyed young woman across from him.
